Mrs. F. H. Clapham, of Hamilton, is a visitor to Auckland. Mrs. W. H. Parkes left Auckland yesterday for Wellington. Mrs. J. W. Jobson left yesterday for Vancouver, en route to England. Mrs. J. P. Parkinson and Miss Ida Parkinson, of Auckland, left by the Aorangi yesterday for a tour abroad. Passengers by the Aorangi yesterday included Mr. and Mrs. A. Buchanan, of Remuera, and Mr. and Mrs. Ashton Bruce. * * * Among the guests at the Cargen are Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Clark, of Sydney, and Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Reid, of Pago Pago. * Mrs. R. A. Dowell, of Auckland, who has been the guest of Mrs. G. W. Vercoe, in Hamilton, has returned I home. Mr. and Mrs. S. Jones and Miss D. Jones, of Christchurch, and Mr. and Mrs. P. Swa:Jield, of Papatoetoe, are at the Royal. Canon ancl Mrs. A. Williams, of Pukeliou, Hawke’s Bay, are visiting Auckland. They are staying at the ! Hotel Stoneliurst. , Miss A. W. Carmichael, of Epsom, ! has returned to Auckland from Wellj ington to take up duty at the Grey I Lynn Dental Clinic. Mrs. J. L. Webster, of Auckland, who intends spending the winter in Australia, joined the Manuka at Wellington on Saturday for Sydney. At the Central are Mr. and Mrs. E. Bunny, of Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. M. Fitzsimons, of Taihape, and Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Andrews, of Rawene. Miss Abbott, who has been spending some months in Auckland visiting her brother. Mr. H. C. Abbott, and Mrs. J. W. Tattersfield, left yesterday on her return to Paris, via Vancouver. The At Home which the Alpine Sports Club had arranged to hold on Thursday, May 23, in the Lewis Eady Hall, will instead be held on Tuesdav May 21. * * * Mrs. Ballance, the widow of the late Right Hon. John Ballance, who has been visiting Helensville, has returned to Auckland, and is staying with friends before taking up her residence at Royal Court. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Bakewell, of South Australia, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Leighton, of Sydney, Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Dillon Bell, of Otago, and Miss N. and Miss M. Puflet, of Gisborne, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Lamb, of Te Aroha. who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Wright, of Golf Road, Epsom, left last evening for Wellington en route to England by the Tainui, via Panama. It is their intention to return via Suez after touring Great Britain and the Continent. WAIKATO NOTES Mrs. W. Bellingham, of Hamilton, is the guest of Mrs. Laidlaw, in New Plymouth. Mrs. Gorrie, of Matamata, is visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. M. Madill of Taihoa. ' Miss Gwen Vosper lias returned to her home in Matamata from a holiday in Hastings. * * * WHITIORA CROQUET CLUB A very pleasant afternoon on Saturday marked the closing of the WhitI iora Croquet Club’s season. The comi tnittee had arranged progressive ! croquet and other competitions, the j winners being:—A grade: Mrs. Irvine; ! K grade, Mrs. Drube; target, Mrs. Henderson; zig-zag A, Mrs. Evans; B. Mrs. Payne. During the afternoon the president, Mrs. Burrow, presented the trophies won by the members during the season. They were as follow;—A championship, Mrs. Kibblewhite; run-ner-up. Mrs. Evans; third. Mrs. Nealie: A doubles, Mrs. Fenwick and Miss Jones; runners-up, Mrs. Kibblewhite and Mrs. Hodgkinson; A and B doubles, Mrs. Henderson and Miss Ibbotson; runners-up, Mrs. Drube and Mrs. Fenwick; B champion. As J a farewell gift from her croquet I friends Mrs. Brown asked her to accept a handsome purse. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Isabel Ascroft, second daughter of Mr. ; and Mrs. F. J. Tattley, of Hukanui J Road, Hamilton, to Frank Gifford, j third son of Mrs. and the late Major j Henry Peacock, of Devonport. FOR THE SWEET COURSE j A novel and very delicious pudding | that wiH please the younger members iof the family is made as follows: Pour three and a-half cupfuls of : milk over one cupful of crushed cracker biscuits and leave them to soak for a j lew minutes. Now mix in a quarter of a pound of finely chopped suit, two tablespoonfuls of granulated sugar and | half a teaspoonful of salt. Blend ! thoroughly, and, last of all. pour in ; two well beaten eggs. Grease a pie ; dish, turn the mixture into it. and bake : in a good oven for three-quarters of lan hour. Serve hot with jam or j slewed fruit. A SALMON SAVOURY | Select a thoroughly reliable brand of ! tinned salmon and drain off the liquor, j reserving only the fish. Flake the | salmon and crush the bones; place a layer in a buttered pie-dish; add a layer of fine breadcrumbs seasoned lightly with pepper and salt: a layer of peeled and sliced tomatoes. also lightly seasoned comes next. Repeat these layers until the dish is half full. Now make an unsweetened custard with two beaten eggs and a pint of milk. Whislc up quickly, pour over the contents of the pie dish and bake in a good oven until firm and tinged brown on top.
