PAKURANGA HUNT
GOOD SPORT AT EAST TAIJAKI KILL AND A LOSS Two very enjoyable runs were made by the large number of huntsmen who attendee! the meet of the Pakurangu Hunt at the Hast Tamaki creamery yesterday. Among the hunters were a number qualifying for the hunters events to be held later in the season. The first draw was made in Mr. Finlay’s property, and in a few minutes the pack put up a strong hare, which led the chase for a good fast run, leading the way across Messrs. Gilliard’s and Hattaway’s properties on to the road by Mr. Cox’s, where it turned, retraced its way over the same country, through Mr. W. Guy’s farm on to Mr. Roy Harris's property, where a kill was registered. The pack was then thrown off on Mr. Speechley’s farm, and after a short draw, a strong quarry was raised at the rear of the property. “Puss” immediately ran into barred country with the hounds close up. Some difficulty was experienced in getting the pack back into open country. Both the hounds and the hare were soon on the run. travelling through Mr. Hattaway’s. It circled round into Mr. Cox’s, where high wire-jumps were a severe test to tli© followers. The hare, with the pack in full cry, continued its career over the hilly country, and into the Whitford Gorge. After a short respite, it was hunted out, and it returned to within a few yards of tho starting point, where, passing through a field of turnips, it took to the road and was lost.
During the first run the rider of one of the qualifying hunters was unseated in an open paddock and received a deep cut in his head. He was conveyed to his home.
