Tons of ammunition, real torpedoes and shells, liners, tramp steamers, schooners, submarines, destroyers and cruisers were used in the filming of this picture. Technical advice on British Naval detail was given by Lieut.-Commander Auten, V.C., R.N.R., whilst Kapitan Rohne, late U-boat commander, supervised the German detail of the film.
