POTATO MARKET STEADY

POSITION IN CANTERBURY Press Association CH IT IST CXI LRCH, Tuesday. Although there is very little demand for potatoes from outside Canterbury, Prices keep up. It is considered Auckland will be looking for further supplies about the middle of the month. With regard to the Australian embargo a local merchant stated to-day that he was sure both the Sydney public and merchants would like to see New Zealand potatoes admitted to that market. Growers, however were determined to keep them out as long as was possible. He thought, however, that whether the embargo was lifted or not there would be just about sufficient supplies on hand to meet the demands for Dominion consumption. Prices to farmers on trucks at country stations are £4 2s 6d to £4 5s for July, August and September delivery. The f.o.b. quotation is £6 15s, June-July £6 ss, May-June £5 10s. Supplies of wheat are beginning to ease off. The figures for Tuscan are 5s 7d to 5s Sd a bushel. Oats are quiet, no business being done with the exception of a few trade lots which are changing hands. The market for seeds is quiet, there being no demand for any particular line.
