PRINCE HOLDS LEVEE

BRILLIANT OCCASION IN LONDON IMPRESSIVE PAGEANTRY British Official Wireless Reed. 10.55 a.m. RUGBY, Tuesday. Many thousands o:; people watched the Prince of Wales drive in State from Buckingham Palace to St. James’s Palace to-day, to hold a levee on behalf of the King. The Prince rode In the closed State landau, drawn by four horses. The coachmen and footmen wore the brilliant scarlet-and-gold uniform of State occasions. An escort of the Royal Life Guards followed the Prince, and carried the Prince’s colour. As the Prince drove into St. James’s Palace, a band and guards from the Second Battalion of the Scots Guards welcomed him with the Royal salute. The Prince, who wore the full dress uniform of a colonel of the Welsh Guards, was conducted to his place ou the dais iu the Throne room, where he found awaiting him the Duke of York, in Air Force uniform, Prince George, in the uniform of a naval lieutenant, and Prince Arthur of Connaught, in the Guards uniform. The long lines of those to be presented moved in ranks of four slowly forward, until just below tile T'hrone dais the four lines melted into one. Bach guest was announced as he came opposite the Prince, made his bow and passed on. There were nearly 1,000 presentations.
