HAURAKI VETERINARY CLUB

SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION The Hauraki Plains Farmers’ Veterinary Club, which has flourished for seven years through having a very capable veterinary surgeon, Mr. James Costello, received a severe blow at its annual general meeting at Ngatea on when Mrs. J. Costello wrote advising that, owing to the serious illness of her husband, he would be unable to resume duty. The death of Mr. Costello occurred yesterday. The resignation was accepted with deep regret, and the secretary was instructed to send letters of sympathv and of thanks to both Mr. and Mrs. Costello. The executive was empowered to obtain a new veterinary surgeon. The balance sheet showed a turnover of £BO6 4s lid, and a balance of assets over liabilities of £303 5s sd. Members’ fees received totalled £5Bl 10s, and there was £133 outstanding. Sales of drugs, etc., to members realised £223 4s sd, and there was £ll3 outstanding. The main items of expenditure were salaries and £132 as part payment on a car for the surgeon. In discussing the balance sheet, it was suggested that the committee go into the question of appointing collectors of subscriptions. The question of charging an additional membership fee to a farmer who owned two farms was brought up by notice of motion in the name of the president, Mr. C. W. Schultz, but the meeting decided to amend the subscription by adding an extra charge of 5s a visit for every visit of the surgeon in a year to any member after the eighth. It was suggested that the club should endeavour to purchase the many proved remedies and formulas which the lace Mr. Costello had evolved and used with such success. The matter was left to the committee. The following officers were appointed: President. Mr. C. TV. Schultz: vice-presidents, Messrs. R. Burke and O. Vagg: committee. Messrs. TV. McCarthy, F. Martin. Andrews. G. Phillips. and TV. Jones, secretary, Mr. C. A. Gibson.
