Positions Altered In Official Count

MR. BLOODWORTH TOPS POLL NOBODY UNSEATED Although the official recount of votes cast in the Auckland mayeral, City Council, Hospital Board arid Harbour Board elections has caused no change in the personnel of candidates, several names have moved higher or lower on the lists. V-OTABLE among such movements -*•’ is the elevation of Mr. T. Bloodworth to the head of the poll in the City Council contests. He thus assumes the position given to Mr. G. W. Hutchison on the night of the poll. It was found that Mr. Bloodworth should have been credited with polling 751 more votes than Mr. Hutchison, instead of 1,121 fewer. Other outstanding alterations were those of Mr. J. Dempsey who climbed from fourteenth place to fifth and Mr. G. L. Brownlee who rose from eighteenth to tenth. Mr. H. P. Burton, who was last on the successful list with a majority of only three over Mr. D. Donaldson, has had his position consolidated by the addition of another 120 votes. In the mayoral contest Mr. G. Baildon increased his majority over hi 3 nearest opponent, Mr. T. Bloodworth, from S9O to 916. In the Hospital Board and Harbour Board polls, the relative positions of the successful candidates were left unaffected by the second count. INFORMAL VOTING A feature of the polling was the heavy list of informal votes, made up as follows: Mayoral. 303; City Council, 2,933; Hospital Board, 1,967; Harbour Board 1,102. Approximately 12J per cent, of the City Council votes were wasted in this way. Two years ago the percentage was as high as 15 1-3 per cent. In the mayoral contest only 1$ per cent, of votes were informal, about the same as in 1927. Of the 129 votes by declaration the chief returning officer, Mr. P. F. Notley, allowed only 17, and of these 10 were found to be informal. Following are the figures for the provisional and final counts, those names marked with an asterisk being members of the 1927 authorities:
