ACTED TOO HASTILY
N.Z. RUGBY UNION BLAMED SOUTHERN COMPLAINT Press Association INVERCARGILL, To-day. A motion to be presented at the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union was discussed at a meeting of the Southland Union. The delegates, Messrs. Geddes and Davis, were instructed to oppose the New Zealand union’s action in making arrangements with the New South Wales union -Without consulting at least the major unions. In reference to the Canterbury Union’s motion: “That the visit of the New Zealand team to Australia be put back one month,” Mr. Torrance said that the northern unions are standing in their own light on this question. If the trip is further postponed it will still interfere with club football and also with representative football. Delegates were left a free hand in the question of the Management Committee’s motion, “That in view of the coming visit of a British team, all matches during 1929 and 1930 be played under the rules as laid down by the International Board,” was not agreed to. Mr. Gefides was supported when he said that if the referee put the ball in the scrum, and the wing forward was done away with,, the question would be solved. It was decided to leave full power to the delegates, who could hear Mr. Hornig’s views before committing themselves.
