NINE RACES

Late Turf —

FRANKLIN MEETING THE DIVISION LISTS There will be nine races to be decided at the Franklin Racing Club’s meeting at Pukekohe next Saturday. Originally there were seven events on the card, but a phenomenal acceptance in two of them, with the safety number well exceeded in both cases, has rendered necessary their being divided. The Trial Handicap, the first race of the programme, is timed to start at 11.15 a.m. The two divisions will be run as one race, the totalisator being open once only and the dividends being paid on the two winners only. The stake money has been increased from £l2O to £l5O. The other division is in the weight-for-age event, the Franklin Stakes. This will be run as two separate races, each of the original stake, £l2O, and the totalisator will do business separately on each division, dividends being payable on the first and second horses in each division. The first division is the fifth race and the second division the seventh race on the programme. As previously stated, an early start is to be made, the first event being timed for 11.15 a.m., with the last race set down for 4.40 p.m. Here are the divisions in the races

ELLERSLIE TRIALS TRACKS BUSY PREPARING FOR FRANKLIN There was plenty or galloping at Ellerslie this morning, but showery weather during last night was inclined to make the tracks a bit heavy, this naturally preventing anything in the nature of fast times being registered. Both the course proper—trestles out 30 feet—and number three grass (eight feet out) were available, and both tracks were freely used. The hurdlers also gave interesting displays. Course Proper Salamander was the first to appear and he bowled along nicely over six furlongs in 1.26 3-5. Modest Boy and High Pitch were sent together over a circuit, and both pleased—the latter was the better of the pair—by travelling over the distance in 2.0 3-5. They covered the last half-mile in 55 3-5, and had nothing between them at the end. Palmares showed, plenty of speed in a six furlongs’ essay, the grey leading Kawainga home. Myola was doing better than Zane Grey at the end of live furlongs in 1.7 2-5. The former has an engagement to carry out at Pukekolie on Saturday but is likely to remain in the stall. The Lover and Thursby were partnered from the new mile barrier, and Thursby, after showing speed in the first couple of furlongs, apparently gave up and allowed The Lover to lead him home in 1.48 3-5. Both horses are expected to make excellent showings at Pukekohe on Saturday. Brampton and Bizarro were companions over a mile, returning 1.51, with Bizarro having the best of the argument at the end. Te Money moved nicely over seven furlongs in 1.35 1-5. Jumping out smartly from the mile post, Eager Rose ran her first three furlongs in 40 3-5, and a furlong further on was joined by her stable companion, Theodolite, who ran away from the chestnut in the last furlong. Eager Rose’s time for the mile was 1.51. Three-quax'ter pace work was allotted Chesterman, and he maintained that rate of speed for six furlongs. Subsequently Hyde Park moved over a round easily, not being after time. Five furlongs was the task set Lady’s Bov, and after being joined by Wild Country at the half-mile peg he waited on his companion all the way to wind up the gallop in 1.9. Lady s Boy could have done much better. Kara mu and Abbot’s Delight covered six furlongs in 1.26. the latter having the advantage at the end. Valsier did easy work over six furlongs, a similar effort going down to Bonny Day. Zircon was sent over two rounds oi this grass, the last six furlongs at a strong three-quarter pace. Diamond Queen and Killute were in company over six furlongs in 1.21 1-o, the former proving her superiority m the last furlong. The time was good considering the conditions. War Officer and Adjuster were detailed to cover a circuit, the former finishing ahead. Subsequently to galloping Zane Gre\ w r as given preliminary education at hurdling, negotiating two of the pony hurdles and then a bigger one satisfactorily. _ _ _ . Sloepv Sol (Burgess) and BavlyDamon (Jones) gave a smart exhibition of fencing when the pair were partnered over four schooling hurdles. Noticed at Ellerslie this morning was the imported horse. Bright Land. Formerly he was trained at Hinuera by W. C. Ring, senr.. but as that sportsman is retiring from the turf it is understood that Bright Land will in future be trained at Ellerslie. POURI SCRATCHED Press Association WANGANUI, To-day. j Pouri has been scratched for all en- j gagements at. the Wanganui J.C« win-| ter meeting next week.
