SKILFUL OPERATION

FOOTBALLER SERIOUSLY INJURED PORTION OF SKULL RAISED (F)om Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. A skilful operation at the Whanga rei Hospital yesterday is likely to save the life of a young footballer, Louis Ball, aged 22, who was playing in a League match at Hikurangi on Saturday. When his head came into collision with an opponent’s bended knee, he became unconscious, and was immediately removed to the Whangarei Hospital, where it was ascertained that he had suffered a depressed fracture of the skull on one side. A trephine operation was successfully performed yesterday, and the depression raised, relieving the most serious danger. It was reported this morning that the patient had passed a fair night, but that he is not yet entirely out of danger.
