OPOTIKI COUNTY COUNCIL

The Opotiki County Council at Its meeting yesterday resolved to send a remit to the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Development League, which is to be held in Rotorua at the end of May, protesting against the constitution of the Transport Board, as there is only one representative for ail county councils in the Dominion. A. telegram received from the Minister of Public Works stated that the question of a new bridge at Oportae over the Waioeka River was receiving consideration. The Main Highways Board notified the council that a subsidy of £.% for £.l had been granted for the purpose of taking off the dang ere-us corners on the Opotiki-Whakatane Road. It was decided to notify the Mote River ferryman that the subsidy will be discontinued at the end of July, as It is expected that the new Motu River Bridge will be completed then. The chairman said farewell to Mr. H. R- Hogg, who is not seeking reelection- He has been a member of the council almost continuously since 18-32, and was at one time chairman.
