English critics are loud in their praises of “Royal Re- ! memhrancesa new British I production , destined to find | ! complete favour in every 1 town under the Union Jack. It is the first film of its j kind attempted. (_ 1 OT before time has a producer realised the powerpossibilities of motion pictures as a medium for the scientific historian. This enterprise should herald the. appearance of other worthy contributions. Every cinema in the Empire should present “Royal Remembrances/’ a picture made up of film records of famous events in our history during the past 33 years, observes a London writer. As the title indicates, most of these events are concerned with the Royal Family, but there are many other
passages of great interest in that they show the amazing change which a' generation has wrought. We see, for example, that the disappearance of the horse from the streets was contemporaneous with the shortening of the skirt. There are three Queen Victoria episodes —her Diamond Jubilee, the State entry into Dublin in 1900, and a wonderful picture record of her funeral procession from the Isle of Wight, through London to Windsor. There are many scenes of King Edward, forming a complete pageant of his reign. It also shows the Prince of Wales, first as a boy of seven, then at his Investiture at Carnarvon, and on his Empire tours.
