IN THE DAYS OF THE HORSE-TRAMS.—One of Auckland’s busiest shopping centres to-day is Karangahape Road. The first Auckland trams, which were horse-drawn, ran along this thoroughfare as far as the reservoir. The line was opened on August 11, 1884. No limousines waited outside giant department stores in those days. Fashionable shoppers arrived in their gigs and buggies to select the newest wear in bonnets.
