MORRINSMLLE NOTES

Despite representations made to the Department of Lands and the former Minister of Lands, nothing has been done toward easing the flood waters at Tahuna and the outlook for the winter is gloomy. The chairman of the Tahuna Drainage Board, Mr. E. EL Whitechurch. stated this week that as a result of

a new scheme undertaken by the Government, the volume of water will be much greater at Tahuna than previously. No provision has been made to get this water away and it will create a serious position. The only solution appears to be the widening of the Waikaka cut, but efforts to get the new Minister to visit the locality have been unavailing. A deputation of settlers will wait upon the Minister when he visits Morrinsville in the near future. Aa area oi -and of approximately I*Boo acres, known as the Te Mirm Estate, has been offered to the Government for closer settlement. The property is situated quite close to the Maungatapere soldiers’ settlement At Thursday evening's meeting of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce it was decided to interview the Minister of Lands, asking him, in the event of the price being suitable, to purchase the land for immediate subdivision, so that it might be ready for occupation in the spring. The property in its present state is suitable for dairying.
