LEG BROKEN IN FIGHT
ASSAULT CHARGE DISMISSED
INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE Police evidence not being conclusive, a charge of assault preferred against Reginald William Woolley at the Police Court yesterday was dismissed. a motor-mechanic aged 25, was charged with assaulting George Lee and a plea of not guilty was entered by Mr. R. A. Singer on his behalf. According to complainant a fight had started when he went to remonstrate with Woolley for using his motor-truck without permission. He urged that accused had threatened to murder him, and that he had spent six weeks in hospital as a result of a broken leg he had received when fighting for possession of a heavy piece of wood.
Percy Roke, whose evidence was taken some days ago, was an eyewitness of the fracas. In his opinion Lee Xiad been responsible. It was when Sergeant Angland had appeared on the scene that Lee had complained of his leg being broken. In the opinion of Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., there was not sufficient evidence to convict accused and the charge was dismissed.
