(To the Sports Editor) GREAT FORWARD PLAY Six*, —I was a spectator at the Ponsonby-Grammar match on Saturday last, and I was pleased at the great exhibition of forward play which must have been a revelation to the fans. The reason for this display has been attributed to A. M. Francis, the old A 1 Black. Me was a great forward who played for Ponsonby and New Zealand in the Rugby code, and then for Newton as a crack Leaguer, finally accepting an engagement to a Northern Union Club back in the days when Seeling, Smith, Todd and others left for the same reasons. On linking up with the Northern Union Club. Francis brought his already good knowledge of forward play to the height of perfection, and that knowledge was demonstrated on Saturday when the Grammar forwards wont through in bunched style and fanned out to do deadly work—a style which has made League forwards such a power in England. It would he well for other clubs to emulate this style of play. R. MORGEN.
