MARTHA NORELIUS’S GREAT 100 YARDS NOT OFFICIAL SWIM Martha Norelius, the Swedishborn American Olympic 400 metres champion, and holder of many swimming records, has the distinction of being the first woman swimmer to cover 100 yards under*6o seconds. IN a Florida pool, Miss Norelius performed her amazing swim in a 42-yards pool in 59 2-ss. As the time was not officially taken, Miss Norelius will not receive recognition of her success. She won the 220 yards title in 2m 34 4-5s —4 4-5 s better than her own world record, and

the 500 yards in 6m 26s —5s better tliai her former world time. After thos< record-breaking swims, she covered 101 yards in 645. In the 400 yards United States re lay, Miss Norelius was timed to cove: 100 yards in 61 3-ss, or 7-10 s outsidEthel Lackie’s record.
