When Leonard George Winnicott was fined 20s and costs today for negligent driving the police said he drove erratically along Victoria Street early one morning, ran on the footpath and shore away five verandah posts, causing £2B worth of damage. Accused’s explanation was that he could not sleep, so went for a drive. The steering-gear was faulty.
