DEAR OYSTERS

MEAL COSTS £2 FIRST OF APRIL EPISODE On the first day of April Thomas Monk, with the aid of a sharp rock, had a hearty but illicit meal off an oyster bed near Oneroa. He paid the penalty at the Police Court this morning. Monk was charged with taking oysters during the close season. He did not appear, but Mr.. V. N. Hubble, who prosecuted, entered the witness box and assured the court that defendant had told him of his intention of pleading guilty. According to counsel Monk was discovered by an inspector sitting on the bed eating oysters, which he was cracking open with a sharp rock. He also had some of the shellfish in a paper bag. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: He had no sack with him? Mr. Hubble: Oh, no. Monk was fined £2.
