BOY HOUSE-RAIDER
INFLUENCED BY MAN GAOL FOR LABOURER A labourer and a boy who raided houses together—the stcry of how the youngster came under the influence of the man, was told in the Police Court this morning. William Ernest Stuart, aged 29, was the mall, and Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., sentenced him to imprisonment for six months. The boy, 15 years old, also appeared and was admonished and discharged by the magistrate. “You are too old to be led into actions of this kind," Mr. Hunt said to the boy. The charges against Stuart were the theft of goods and articles valued at £ 1 4s from Henry Campbell Hay, of Titirangi, £1 3s from Ethel Susan Jones, of Titirangi, and 7s from Godfrey Lincoln Lee. “Stuart induced the boy to go through the back windows and steal,” Sub-Inspector McCarthy said. "The cases are serious enough, but they are by no means heinous. Because of that, I do not think it necessary for Stuart to go before the Supreme Court. , . . “The hoy has apparently been the tool of Stuart. Although he has been in court before, he has been under the influence of this moil. “The probation officer is inclined to give the boy, who is now under probation, another chance. Mr. Hunt agreed with the suggestion of the officer. t The charges against Stuart ve.c made out originally on breaking and entering, but, on Mr. McCarthy’s suggestion, they were reduced to theft bv the magistrate. Stuart s solicitoi did not appear, so the common charges were considered in order.
