Lewis, a member of the staff of the Maungawliau School, was met by staff and pupils on Mort Gay on the occasion of her departure to take up a position with the Taranaki Education Board. Many congratulatory telegrams were received by the happy old couple from friends who were unable to be present. Tlieir six sons and four' daughters, with a number of friends, made a merry party in the large marquee decorated with golden flowers and leaves. Very many gifts were received and reminiscences of the old hard pioneering days exchanged. On the Wednesday- evening Mr. and Mrs. Henry were the honoured guests of the members of the Hamilton East Prsbyterian Church, where they have been members for very many years, and where Mr. Henry is still on officebearer. ARTS BALL ARRANGED FESTIVE FUNCTION FIXED FOR JUNE 13 The council of the Society of Arts has decided to hold an arts ball at the conclusion of its annual exhibition. The function will take place in the Town Hall on June 13. and is expected to be a very festive affair. PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY IN AUCKLAND A new organisation which has physical development as its interest the Auckland Society of Artistic Physical Development—held its first programme last evening in the Lewis Eady Hall. Madame Baird, who has been engaged as organiser and instructress for the society, was introduced to the audience by the chairman, Air. L. S. Eady. The programme included model systems of physical development and movement in rhythmical exercises. These were explained by Madame Baird and were performed by a class of young women. Grecian exercises were demonstrated, followed by operatic dancing, while pastoral dancing showed the possibilities of open-air training. The display ended with a short series of classic individual and group dances by members in costume. FRANKLIN PLUNKET SOCIETY The annual meeting of the Franklin Plunlcet Society was held last evening. Airs. H. H. D. Wily presiding. In her annual report the president referred to the progress made by the branch during the past year, especially in the outlying districts. Reference was made to the fact that Nurse F. Clark had resigned. The president spoke of the exceedingly valuable service rendered by her in her four years with them. The nurse reported that she had received 3,043 visits at the rooms and had paid 700 visits to homes. In the out stations, which included Papakura, Pokeno and Tuakau, she had received 2,687 visits and paid 40 calls to homes. The balance-sheet revealed a credit of £7O 12s lid on the year’s working. Ralph Vail, was charmingly gowned in a picture frock of pompadour pink taffeta. The slender bodice was of taffeta, and the bouffant skirt of tulle frills, embroidered in silver. A large taffeta bow with long streamer ends was finished at the waist with orange blossom. The veil of pale pink tulle was worn Madonna fashion to frame the face and fell in soft folds to form a train. The bride carried a shower bouquet of pink flowers and maindenhair fern. Following the bride and holding her train was little Pat Chaplin, of Dargavilie. Her dainty frock was of petalled pink taffeta. The two chief bridesmaids, Alias Eileen Vail, sister of the bride, and Aliss Alary Vella, wore frocks of cameo pink georgette, relieved, with silver, with uneven hemline. They wore silver headdresses and each maid carried a shower bouquet of pink flowers. Aliss Joy Hancock, niece of tlie bride, and Aliss Ima Burns, the other ttvo attendant maids, were similarly frocked in cameo pink georgette, with handker-chief-pointed skirts. Their tulle headdresses were of pink and silver, and their shower bouquets were of pink flowers. Mr. Lance Harris attended the bridegroom as best man, and Air. Owen Kelly was groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at St. Sepulchre’s Hall, which was beautifully decorated with pink flowers. Airs. Vail received her gLiests wearing a frock of black georgette and lace, relieved with beige georgette. Tier hat was of beige felt, and she carried a bouquet of autumn tints. Airs.
