MAJESTIC
“REVENGE” Dolores Del Rio unfolds an entirely new characterisation on the Majestic screen this week, where she appears in the role of a fiery gipsy maiden, whose chief joy in life is taming wild bears. “Revenge” is the title of the picture, prepared from Konrad JBercovici’s “The Bear Tamer’s Daughter,” produced and directed by Edwin Carewe for United In “Revenge,” Dolores Del Rio is neither the Russian Katusha Maslova nor is she the Indian girl Ramona. It is difficult to describe her. Truly, she gives a completely new and interesting characterisation—-one of high dramatic tension, filled with barbaric splendour, colourful, glamorous, and romantic. There are several unusual dramatic climaxes in the picture that place “Revenge” in the galaxy of screen achievements. The rest of the programme at the Majestic is also outstanding. It is headed by some brilliant pianoforte playing by Miss St. Lawrence-Toner, who plays “Waltz in E Minor” (Chopin), and “Toccata” (Debussy). There is also a Majestic Magazine, an Eve’s Review, a comedy, and new music throughout by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra. Anna May Wong, the fascinating Chinese actress, who has been popularised through her numerous screen successes in America, is soon to be seen in her first featured role. She was signed by British International Pictures to appear in a number of their productions, the first being “Show Life, v under the direction of Richard Eichberg. This film is to be released at the Majestic Theatre next Friday. Opposite her in this production is the big actor, Henry George, who played the part of Grot in “Metropolis.” Others in the cast are Mary Kid and A. S. von Schletton.
