The downpour caused the heaviest flood experienced for many years. Serious damage was done to the bank of the Brook Street stream. Miss Turton, officer in charge of the Tourist Department, was the greaiest sufferer, having her garden washed away and her house dangerously undermined. Low-lying areas in the town are flooded. Throughout the country districts many of the smaller bridges and culverts were washed away. The Hon. A. Passing through a flooded creek the driver missed the submerged side on the bridge, the wheels on one side of the car only taking it. with the result that the ca’ leaned dangerously over and filled with water, the occupants escaping out on the upper side. Everything in the car was soaked with water.
