SUBSIDIES ON MAINTENANCE Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Cabinet decided to-day against the granting of subsidies on maintenance works carried out by local public bodies. In making a brief announcement to this effect the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, said aplications had from time to time been received for such subsidies, but m accordance with the Cabinet’s decision subsidies would be available only for the construction of works referred to and approved by the engineers.
