(Eng.), designing engineer to the Public Works Department, Wellington, is to be offered ihe appointment of professor of civil ngineering at Canterbury College.— PA Dr. Charles Chilton, for 26 years professor of Canterbury College, and rector from 1921 until 1928, has been iippointed professor emeritus of the college In recognition of his work as professor and rector. Archbishop Averill and Archdeacon H. Hawkins, superintendent of the Auckland diocese branch of the Maori Mission, are touring in the North Auckland district. The archbishop will conduct confirmation services in Dargaville, Te Kopuru, Mititai, and Avoca. Mr. John Alexander, president of the Auckland branch of the Navy League, during the past year, received, on the motion of the new president, Mr. C. H. T. Palmer, a hearty vote of thanks at the annual meeting of the league last evening. Mr. Palmer paid a tribute to the valuable work that Mr. Alexander had always done for the orflanisation. Mr. Alexander is at present ill, and unable to leave his home. Mr. Arthur G. Caie, who has been £ ew Zealand general manager for Ihe Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, limited, for the last 13 years, has accepted a position on the head office executive staff in Melbourne. TTe will succeeded by Mr. E. A. Sevier .the. present assistant-general manager, and rffn. Chambers, manager of the 'V euington branch, will take Mr. Seviers place.
