COLLEEN MOORE AT BRITANNIA
“Synthetic Sin,” now at the Britannia Theatre, is the story of an unsophisticated little girl from Virginia, whose ambition to be a great actress leads her into a series of adventures as amusing as they are exciting. Having failed dismally in her first stage appearance, she determines to go to New York and “see life,” the better to equip herself for the realistic portrayals demanded by the modern stage. Her obvious innocence and sweet personality defeat her purpose, and she finds the inhabitants of the underworld striving to protect her, instead of permiting her to gain the “experience” she wants. “Waterhole,” which is also being shown, is a thrilling Zane Grey story, starring Jack Holt. “Children of the Ritz” is the intriguing title chosen for the latest success of that genial and charming pair of screen lovers, Jack Mulhall and Dorothy Mackaill. A fine little tale of modern married life, the charming love story is given added zest by the refreshing personality of this entertaining duo, and the wittiness of the sub-titles.
