NOT HOLIDAY RESORT
ROTO ROA TOO GOOD FOR CLERK MONTH IN GAOL Asserting that Roto Roa Island was not a holiday resort, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., declined to allow Albert Jaseph Vance Ryan to spend a term there when he appeared at the Police Court this morning. Ryan, a clerk, aged 35, was up-for sentence on a charge to which he pleaded guilty last week. He was said to have obtained £5 from Thomas Glanville by means of a valueless cheque. At the time of his conviction he was described by the magistrate as a problem. He had twice been in the mental hospital, once on the inebriates’ island, and several times in gaol. “It has been gaol more often than not,” remarked Chief-Detective Hammond this morning. Mr. Hunt: He appears to he had all through. Ryan was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.
