BITTER DEBATE FOLLOWS IN CONGRESS POLICE ATTACKED (A:utralian and N.Z. Press Association) WASHINGTON, Saturday. A bitter debate occurred in the House of Representatives .about the killing of a bootlegger 21 years of age. Deceased was laying a smoke screen trough the streets of Washington in an endeavour to escape with a liquorladen motor-lorry when he was shot dead by a policeman. Mr. W. P. Holaday, Republican member for Illinois, spoke in defence of Hie policeman concerned, and other members applauded him. Mr. E. Black, Democrat member for Texas, sprang to his feet saying: I Hiink this is one of the most outrageous scenes I have ever witnessed ** tbe House. To think that a statement by one of our members describing the killing of a young man should 5® applauded by members of the House of Representatives of the united States! Mr. F. H. La Guardia, Republican member for New York, commented sarcastically upon the large sums of oney spent by prohibition agents in l ght clubs to obtain evidence.
