JAPAN’S DAY
Emperor Hirohito’s Birthday A LONG DYNASTY To-day is the 28th anniversary of the birthday of his Imperial Japanese Majesty, Emperor Hiroliito. It is
also the national day of the land of the rising sun. The Japanese flag was flown from the Consulate in Fort Street, and all morning the honorary consuls, Mr. A. B. Roberton, received official calls from the other consuls of the city. Among those to wait on him this morning were Mr. Walter F. Boyle (Consul U.S.A.), Mr. W. P. Cochrane (ViceConsul tr.S.A.), Mr. N. Heath (Latvia). Mr. J. A. C. Allum (Switzerland), Mr. David Nathan (Portugal), Mr. F. S. Battley (Argentine, Vice-Consul), and Mr. A. M. Ferguson (Belgium). Emperor Hirohito was born on April j 29, 1901. Mr. Roberton has just re- | ceived an elaborate English copy of the enthronement edition of the “Japanese Advertiser.” The Japanese claim that their empire was founded by the first Emperor Jimmu Tenno in 060 8.C., and that the dynasty founded by him still reigns. It was revived in ISOS, when the family now ruling overthrew the power of the Shogun after a short war. The Shoguns had held the ruling power in successive families since the 12th century. Emperor Hirohito succeeded his father Yoshihito, on December 25, 1920. He married Princess Nagako on January 20, 1924.
