POWER BOARD CANDIDATE
MR. ARTHUR W. WHITE Numbered among the candidates for the honour of representing Takapuna borough upon the Waitemata ElectricPower Board is Mr. Arthur W. White managing director of the National Machinery Co.. Ltd., of Auckland. - Mr. White is well-known in electrical and machinery circles throughout New Zealand, having been for many years, prior to founding the National Machinery Co., Ltd., Dominion representative for Messrs. H. F Moss, Ltd., one of the leading machinery houses of Dunedin. Mr. White has always shown keen interest in local affairs, and had some two years' secretarial experience in the Takapuna Central Ratepayers’ Association. This was during the period of the long fight on the question of transport in the borough. Mr. White is opposed to power boards engaging in competition with private enterprise through their trading departments. He holds that the prime function of such bodies is to concentrate upon the vending of elec-tric-power in their respective districts. 1 urther. that public resources in the form of the power to levy rates as security for loans raised were never intended to be utilised in order to hamper legitimate trading.
