CALIFORNIAN ORANGES

DIRECT SHIPMENTS ARRANGED The Oceanie and Oriental Line’s steamer Golden Cross, which arrived in Auckland on Saturday from Los Angeles, brought a shipment of Californian oranges and grape fruit. It is some time since Californian oranges have been landed at Auckland from a direct steamer; usually they arrive by the mail steamers at Wellington and are transhipped to Auckland. In future oranges will be brought by all the company’s vessels, as they are being insulated for the carriage of fruit and frozen products. The Golden Cross is the first of the company’s steamers to be insulated. From New Zealand on their return voyage to the Pacific Slope, the vessels will take back butter, cheese and meat, besides general cargo.
