Sumner, of the Hauraki Regiment, has been awarded the colonial auxiliary forces’ long-service jnedal. Mr. T. Brook, Surveyor-General, of Wellington, and Mrs. Brook, are visiting Auckland, and are staying at the s4tar Hotel. Captain J. S. G. Fraser, D. 5.0., R.N., has been gazetted honorary aide de camp to the Governor-General. Brigadier H. R. Potter, who is a patient at the King George V. Hospital, Rotorua, is reported to be making further improvement. Mr. P. G. Roussell, Government general superintendent of transportation, will arrive in Auckland on Monday on departmental business. Mr. and Mrs. H. Langguth, of Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. H. Willis, of Cambridge, and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Galpin, pi Mar ton. are at the Royal Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Brooks, of Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. J. Savage, of Sydney, and Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Masters, of Hamilton, are staying at Hotel Cargen. The Rev. Morgan Richards, minister of St. George’s Presbyterian Church, Takapuna. who underwent an operation in a private hospital yesterday, is reported to be progressing favourably. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, and Mrs. Coates, arrived in Auckland from the North yesterday afternoon, and left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. F. N. Bar tram, ex-member of Parliament for Grey Lynn, who is a candidate for a seat on the City Council, has been forced to cancel his addresses through illness. He is at present a patient in the public hospital. The Rev. A. L. Leeder, of Sydney, general secretary of the Russian Missionary Society in Australia and New' Zealand, arrived in Auckland yesterday from Hamilton, after a tour of the Dominion. He is a guest of Mrs. F. E. Salmon, of Epsom. Mr. Robert Thompson, who is retiring from the Colonial Sugar Company, after 42 years’ service, was made a presentation by his fellow employees this week. Mr. F*. Francis; and Mr. H. Hopkins spoke of the high esteem in which Mr. Thompson is held. Messrs. S. Smith, C. Warner, and T. B. of the Chief Postmasters stall at Auckland, have been promoted assistant supervisors at Thames, Napier, and Hamilton respectively. They have been the recipients of presentations by their fellow-workers, Mr. Warner has been associated with the office for over 25 years. Bro. W. E. Watkins, P.G., of the Otahuhu Lodge 147, 1.0.0. F., was presented with a P.G. jewel at a recent meeting of the lodge. He is the first N.G. of the lodge, and Bro. M. J. Hooper, D.D.G.M., in making the presentation, spoke of Mr. Watkins’s splendid services to the organisation. Mr. W. W. Massey, chairman of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral .Association, is to be recommended by the association to the Governor-General for appointment as the provinoial representative on the Board of Agriculture. Mr. Massey has already held the position for a term of three years. The association made the recommendation ni a special meeting this afternoon.
