SPORT FOR SHOOTISTS

DUCKS AND PHEASANTS ON WEDNESDAY Sportsmen will be on the alert at 6 o’clock on Wednesday morning. On that day the shooting season for varieties of du pheasants and Californian and Australian quail will open. The season for ducks will continue until June 16, the season for quail and pheasants extending to June 30. Mallard, grey and shoveller, or spoon-bill, are among the various species of duck to be taken. It is said that during the early part of the month more ducks were seen than for many years past, the increase being attributed to the shortening of last season and the bad weather which prevailed at the opening. This season is also curtailed. ■ The. number of licences sold so far is well up to the average.
