TO MARRY DANISH GIRL. The engagement was announced recently of Mr. Douglas Gordon Arthur Lowe, the Olympic champion, and Miss Karen Thamsen, eldest daughter of the late Surgeon Einar Thamsen and Mrs. Thamsen, of Copehagen. Douglas Lowe, who has earned the reputation of being one of the world’s greatest half-milers, announced his retirement from the track in August
last, a few days after his*twenty-sixth birthday. He is now devoting himself to his career as a barrister. He is one t of the few athletes to retain a title (the 800 metres) in two successive Olympiads, and he did this at Amsterdam last year by establishing an Olympic record. Shortly afterwards, in Berlin, he beat Dr. Peltzer in another 800 metres race in lmin 51 1-5 sec., a world’s record.
