A DARK GOLFER

The first coloured, golfer to compete for the British Open Championship will be the Indian R. B. Bambata, assistant professional, at Durban, South Africa. He will also be the smallest competitor, as he is only 4ft 11in high and weighs 7st 101 b. Bambata, who speaks English perfectly, says: “I have come to England to get the chance. I cannot get in colour-ruled Africa. My ambition is to become an assistant professional in England.” He uses only five clubs—driver, brassie, iron, deep-faced mashie, and putter. Bambata has also entered for the German, Belgian and Irish championships.
