FAREWELL TO CANON JAMES
MEETING AT ST. MARY’S The opportunity of bidding farewell to Canon and Mrs. Percival James, who are going on a trip to England, was taken at the annual meeting of St. Mary’s parishioners last evening. The wardens, Dr. A. Kinder and Mr. L. S. Rickerby, praised the work of the canon and his wife, and, on behalf of the members of the vestry, Mr. Rickerby presented Canon James with a travelling rug and a suitcase. Canon James, in reply, mentioned that he had been nine years in the parish. At the annual meeting, which was followed by a social, it was stated that the satisfactory position of the finances was largely due to the weekly freewill offering system, which had produced nearly £6OO in the year. After paying all current expenses and setting aside £IOO to a reserve fund the vestry had been able to reduce the debts upon the buildings by £SOO. It was pointed out that in four years the indebtedness of the parish had been reduced by nearly £2,500. Officers in the church for the ensuing year are:—Wardens, Dr. A. Kinder (appointed by the vicar), Mr. L. S. Rickerby (elected by the parishioners;; vestry, Dr. Tewsley, Messrs. J. P. Ridings, D. Hay, John Dawson, J. Pee, C. Tewsley, F. D. E.
