City Council Standing Together for Progress Harbour Board Allum, J. A. C. Ashley, G. G. Bagnall, B. L. Bellam, H. Brownlee, Geo. Campbell, Grey Dempsey, John Entrican, A. J. Goldfinch, P. J. Hutchison, G. W. Kealy, J. W. McKinney, W. H. McNab, T. Quart ley, A. G. Shanly, J. F. Tahle, S. Thompson, A. Progressive Citizens’ Platform GENERAL— Our whole programme is devised to give relief to the overburdened ratepayer, by economies in administration and by carrying on the city’s business with the greatest possible efficiency. city music— Immediate consideration to be given to the Council’s policy regarding the City’s music. CITY MANAGEMENT— Complete investigation of the management of the City and the duties of its officers, to secure efficiency in methods of work and control, proper buying practice, and the adoption of contracts instead of dav labour when found more economical. PLAYING AREAS— Co-operation with sports bodies and tennis clubs, to improve and increase playing areas and bathing facilities, giving sports associations some security of tenure over the areas occupied, so long as the management and control does not conflict with public interests. SEWERAGE— The adoption of up-to-date methods f< disposing of the City’s Sewage, with view to eliminating present nuisance : the harbours. ZOO— The encouragement of the Zoological Society formed to foster interest in the Zoo, with a view to increasing public patronage, thus easing the burden on the ratepayers. TRANSPORT BOARD— Review of the personnel of the Transport Board after the poll, and replacing by elected members of the Council any who may not be re-elected. ENDOWMENTS— Careful management ot' these assets procure the fullest revenue. ROADS AND STREETS— Adequate maintenance and scavenging of the paved and surfaced thoroughfares, and the completion of all unformed roads as soon as economically possible. ELECTORAL REFORM— An early investigation of the possibilities of City Electoral Reform. HARBOUR BRIDGE— Approval of a Harbour Bridge, providing it imposes no burden on City ratepayers. TRAFFIC— Careful study of traffic problems. HOBSON BAY— The conservation of Hobson Bay, to sure its being kept free from use industrial purposes. NEW OUTLETS Immediate investigation of possible schemes for necessary improvements to outlets from the City centre, with a view to an early settlement of this question and submission to the ratepayers. water— Keep water supplies well ahead of immediate requirements, thus avoiding possibility of famine in dry seasons. INFECTIOUS DISEASES— To recommend to the Hospital Board the building of the Infectious Diseases Ward in a sparsely-populated district, well away from the present Hospital Block. Hutchinson, G. R.
