WATER-MELONS RAIDED

GANG’S BIG HAUL YOUTHS BEFORE COURT (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, To-day. Water-melons are popular witli some of the youths in the Pukekohe district. To-day, 11 youths whose ages ranged from 12 to 17 years, -were charged, before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M.. in the. Children’s Court, with stealing 52 water-melons and destroying 30 others. All pleaded guilty. Sergeant J. T. Cowan stated that a number of gardens owned by Chinese. Hindus and Maoris had been raided lately by the gang. On a recent Sunday afternoon the police found the boys in a Maori’s garden, the owner being absent. The magistrate reprimanded tho youths and warned them of tho serious part a conviction might play in their lives. Upon each giving an assurance that he would not offend again they were admonished and discharged, and each ordered to pay 14s toward the damage.
