In the Market Place
TOO MANY APPLES BANANAS FIRMING Over-supplies of second-grade apples are having a. bad effect on sales in the City Marts, and prices were lower at to-day’s auction. Second-grade pears are also plentiful and rates are easing. Tlio market for bananas is firming. There is a keen inquiry from buyers, who are aware that the supply is always likely to become seriously short. California oranges are dear. Hutt tomatoes advanced in price at to-day’s sales. Other lines shofcr no important change. • Te Ivauwhata grapes have shortened in supply, but prices vary largely, according to quality. There is a fair demand for hothouse grapes. The vegetable market is very heavily supplied with good quality local and {Southern potatoes, cabbages, carrots and cauliflowers. Root vegetables are in fair demand generally.
