MINES MAY REOPEN
PROPOSALS TO SETTLE N.S.W. DISPUTE STATE TO BEAR THE CAST Reed. 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Proposals as a basis for a resumption of work in the coal-mines have been placed before the Cabinet. It is intended by the Government to convene another conference between the coal-owners and the representatives of the miners, when the proposals will be submitted. The Ministers are confident that they will be acceptable to both sides, and that the mines will reopen within a fortnight. Details of the proposals have not been divulged, but it is understood that the State and Federal Governments will bear the proposed reduction in the men’s wages. The mines will reopen and a Royal Commission will be appointed immediately.
