AMANULLAH DENOUNCED

WILD PROCLAMATION BY REBEL KING “HERETIC AND DEFAMER” (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) SIMLA, Monday. The self-proclaimed King of Afghanistan, Bacchasakao, who styles himself Habibullah Khan, has issued a proclamation denouncing ex-King Amanullah as “an unbeliever, a heretic and a detainer of the Holy Book of Ulem-a, who procured the assassination of his father and several other prominent people.” The proclamation adds: “Amanullah, instigated by his atheistic father-in-law, Mahmud Tarzi, introduced the unbelievers’ prohibition of indirect evidence in trials.” It cites 26 heretical acts alleged to have been done by Amanullah, who is accused of wasting millions of rupees on his European tour. Hababullah also attacks the abolition of the purdah system and invites the people of Afghanistan to inspect photographs of ex-Queen Souriya, “driving naked in a motor-car.” He charges Amanullah with having shaved off his moustache against the injunction of the Koran, “making him look like a butterfly.” Amanullah has issued a brief counter-proclamation asking whether Afghans will consent to a menial water-carrier’s- son ruling them.
