REVIEWING WAGES AND HOURS The claims of the Cooks and Stew - ards’ Union, who ask that wages and hours be reviewed, were heard before Mr. Justice Frazer at the Arbitration Court this morning. Mr. E. Kennedy appeared for the union, and Messrs. R. C. Hammond and F. E. Wright for the employers. The union asked that wages be reviewed and that the minimum be raised in certain classes of work, and that the hours of work be arranged so that no more than eight hours be worked in any one day. It was also asked that the Northern Steamship Company’s boats, Matangi. Rarawa, Ngapuhi and Clansman, be rated as class A. Various other variations dealing with holidays. discharges. medical benefits and accommodation were s<*t out in the detailed statements of claim. (Proceeding.)
