Stallworthy, Minister of Health, returned to Wellington last evening by the Limited. Major T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services, is visiting Auckland. He is staying at the Star Hotel. The Rev. A. W. Payne, warden of St. John's College, has been appointed a canon of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell. Lieut.-Colonel F. Syraon, Director of Artillery, arrived at Frankton Junction this morning by the Limited from Wellington. >lr. R. C. H. Hooton. of Mount Eden, who has been spending a holiday abroad, returned to New Zealand yesterday by the Rotorua. Captain P. J. Foster, the Union Steam Ship Company’s marine superintendent, is visiting Auckland. He is a guest at the Cargen. Mr, W. F. Ross, formerly secretary of the Rodney Agricultural Socioty, has been appointed secretary of the Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Mr. W. R. Blow, New Zealand Government agent, in New South Wales, left Sydney for Queensland on Saturday, for a visit of three weeks. Mr. W. Barnett will act as New Zealand Government representative in his absence. Mn. Quentin Pope has been appointed Dominion secretary of the United Party. Mr. Pope, who was Parliamentary reporter and subeditor on the staff of the “New Zealand Times,’’ is a well-known New Zealand journalist. Dr. Stanley Porteous, Australiart Government Research Officer at Honolulu, who will lead the expedition to be sent by the Australian National Research Council to the Northern Territory to study the life of the aborigines, ia a passenger to Sydney by the Aorangi. Mr. J. Caughley. Director of Education in Fiji and formerly Director of Education in New Zealand, has been suffering from a severe attack of dysentery since the middle of February. Word has been received in Audvland that he is now recovering satisfactorily. Mr. F. Bryant, of Tunbridge Wells, and formerly of Palmerston North, arrived in Auckland yesterday by th* Aorangi with his son, Dr. E. H. Bryant, who has been practising at Tunbridge Wells for many years. They will *pend a short holiday in the Dominion before returning to England. Mr. Bruce Kelly arrived by the Rotorua yesterday to take over the management of the electrical branch of A. S- Paterson and Company, Limited, with headquarters in Wellington. Mr. Kelly is a son of Mr. George Kelly, managing director of the Hawke’s Bay farmers’ Co-operative Company. He has been undergoing a period of practical electrical training in Sweden. Bishop Molyneux, of the Solomon Islands, who has charge of the diocese of Melanesia, and Sir Harry Lauder, were distinguished visitors at the Auckland Rotary Club’s luncheon today.
