WAITEMATA’S GOOD YEAR
REI 3RD RATES COLLECTED “The rate collection for the financial year just closed was a record one, more particularly in view of the stringency of the money market,” states the report of the treasurer, presented at the meeting of the Waitemata County Council yesterday. “The collection under all headings totalled £47,310 7s 9d, as against £44,291 Is Sd for the preceding year ” There has been a considerable increase over last year’s record collee- j tion of grant moneys* mainly owing to increases in subsidies, and construe- i tion grants from the Main Highways j Board. The total of grant expendi- | ture was £39,817. against £22.518 for the preceding year. A total of 161 miles of new roads bad been formed, while 26i miles of | new metalling had been completed. On clay formation roads. 621 miles had been graded, while 1C bridges and 13 concrete culverts had been built. During the year 231 building permits were issued, the total value being £82,204. compared with 253 permits, of a total value of £70,329 10s. in the preceding year. The permit fees this ! year amounted to £199 7s. as against £l9O during the preceding period.
