OUTSIDERS’ DAY

AT TE AROHA TROTS CONCERTINA'S CUP SEBISCA'S BIG DIVIDEND In ideal weather and before a larne concourse of people the Te Aroha Trotting Club staged a splenaid fixture on Saturday, when some high-class and exciting contests were witnessed. The b.g course was in good order, but the tooting was not fast. President Somers left no stone nn- ! for tlie largo number ol visitors, while , Secretary uusii as usual attended to iiis : duties in an efficient and capable man- j ner, and had all arrangements up to a high standard. All the officials 1 worked harmoniously and assiduously gratulated on the tine result of their efforts. The totalisator returns showed a falling off from last year when X I j. 75was put through the machine, Saturday s total umy reaching £14,-158, a decrease of .C 1,294. This can be accounted lor by me fact that favourites had a bad day, only one. Belle Axwortliy, in the opening event, scoring. In the main dividends were on the largo side, proving that punters wer<. all at sea, so it is not surprising under the circumstances that investments were loss than previously recorded. Fines for Minor Offences Messrs. Reid and Commons were in attendance in their official capacity as stipendiary stewards, but the clean sport provided made their duties light, ooveral minor irregularities claimed attention and A. \\ . Broughton tyus lined 10s after the nrst race lor driving jji wrong colours, while drivers G. Ix. Mitchell, A. R. Saunders and Cl. Patou, for failing to obey the starter, i were required to pay forfeit to tlio I extent of 20s. If. "Major” Shaw was again successful with the dispatches and as at the i Thames fixture, his work was most : favourably commented on o> vpublic, iiandicapper C. L. Gooseman also came in for congratulation on the excellent racing witnessed as a resuit of his well studied adjustments. lit had the winners remarkably wtU concealed, much to the chagxin of the great majority of speculators. Successful Reinsmen G T Mitchell, junr., who, for the last* few seasons has experienced anythins but a good slice of fortune, had •l roval day scoring with Sebisca. and Pollv’s Picture, and collecting a second dividend with Horizon. A. Julian also captured a double, being with Belle Axworthy and Cri eat Ballin. Other reinsmen to succeed on the clay were J. S. Shaw (Warspite) Geo. Phipps (Concertina), H. «*- (Royal Bob) and R. -Hall, junr. (Scandal). Bell Axworthy Jogs In Bello Axworthy was made the favourite in the Waitoa -Handicap, with £ 270 from Benefice £22%, with a big drop to Polly’s Picture AI9J. Along the back Belle Axworthy and Profiteer were clear of Zealous, Conder Bell, Polly’s Picture and Vanity Boy. Approaching the straight Vanity Boy moved up and followed the iawounte at the home turn. Profiteer, Zealous and Polly's Picture were all handy. Tlio favourite went on to win comfortably by a length and a-half trom Zealous, who finished a neck ahead of Polly’s Picture. Then came Vanity Boy, Gold Treasure, Conder Bell, Profiteer and Beniflce. Sebisca Springs Surprise To Ngutu was made a not favourite, for the Elstow Trot, carrying £324 with Bon Zolock £173 and Nelson Girl £166 next in demand. Along the back Te Ngutu broke and Nelson Girl went to the front from Te Ngutu followed by Birect Action and Royal Bob.
