210 MILES AN HOUR
CAMPBELL TRIES OUT HIS RACERLEAP OF THIRTY FEET (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11 a.m. CAPETOWN, Friday. Captain Malcolm Campbell, in a oneway trial at Verneuk Pan at six o’clock in the evening was officially timed at 210 miles an hour. A bump caused the car to jump 30 feet before regaining the track. It is expected that the big test will be made to-morrow. Major H. O. D. Segrave, referring to Captain Malcolm Campbell’s forthcoming attempt to break the speed record for motor-cars at Verneuk Pan, South Africa, says he wishes him the best of luck. Major Segrave did not express any opinion of his chances, but motoring experts in London do not anticipate that a new record will be made.
