i KIA ORA AT SOUTHAMPTON. —The | Shaw, Savill and Albion Line's steamer, Kia Ora, which loaded at Auckland on February 9. and loft Wellington finally on March 5, arrived at Southampton on Wednesday. HURUNUI AT LONDON.—The New Zealand Shipping Company have been notified by cable that the Hurunui arrived at London last Tuesday morning from Lyttelton. She sailed from Lyttelton on February 28. KAWATIRI TO RESUME.—The local office of the Union Company advises that the collier Kawatiri, which has been laid uy at Hobson’s Bay for some time, is to resume running. She is to be docked Monday for cleaning and painting, and on April 27 she leaves Auckland for Westport. TREGENNA WITH PHOSPHATES.— Henderson and Macfarlane have been advised that the steamer Tregenna left Nauru Island on April 18 with phosphates for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth and Wanganui. She is expected at Auckland about April 28. MAUN GAN U I LEAVES SYDNEY. — Cable advice has been received by the local office of the Union Company that the intercolonial passenger steamer Maunganui left Sydney at 3 p.m. yesterday for Auckland. She is due here on Tuesday morning and will berth at the Queen’s Wharf. SUSSEX CLEARS RANGOON.—Advice has been received by the local office of the Union Company that the chartered steamer Sussex, from Calcutta, left Rangoon on April 11, via Penang, Singapore and Java, for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland about May 15. NORTHUMBERLAND AT HOME. Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Federal steamer Northumberland arrived at London on Tuesday morning from Wellington. The vessel left Wellington on March 9 for London and West Coast ports of Great Britain. TAINUI SAILS TO-MORROW.—A. S. Paterson and Company advises that the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tainui leaves Auckland at 5 a.m. to-morrow for Opua, thence Napier, Timaru and Wellington, to fill up for Home. She is to clear Wellington finally on May 9 for Southampton and London, via Panama. AELYBRYN DUE TO -M OR ROW.—Due at Auckland to-morrow morning from Westport, the steamer Aelybryn will remain in the stream until Tuesday, when she docks for cleaning and painting. On Wednesday she leaves here for the Islands to load phosphates for New Zealand or Australia. PORT FREMANTLE AT PANAMA.— En route from New Zealand to Rotterdam, London and Hamburg, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s motorship Port Fremantle is reported to have reached Panama last Wednesday. She was dispatched from Wellington on March 29. TREGONNEL WITH SUGAR.—A further radio message received by Spedding. Ltd., states that the steamer Tregonnel is now due in the stream at Auckland at 4 o’clock this afternoon from Cuba. After pratique has been granted, the vessel will proceed to Chelsea to unload her cargo of raw sugar. TAIROA DUE HOME.—Advice has been received by L. D. Nathan and Company that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Tairoa, which loaded in New Zealand, and sailed from Wellington on March 3, for New York, Boston. Halifax, and London, is expected to arrive at London on <April 30. She left New York last Wednesday. MATAROA REPORTS “ALL WELL." —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company received a wireless message yesterday from the liner Mataroa which left Wellington at noon on Saturday for Southampton, reporting having encountered heavy north-easterly winds for the first two days, but was now experiencing fine weather. The ship reported “all well.” TASMANIA IN PORT.—Late last evening the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Tasmania arrived at Auckland from Gisborne, and this morning was berthed at the Queen's Wharf to complete her loading. It is hoped to dispatch the vessel from Auckland next Friday afternoon for New York, Boston, Halifax and West Coast ports of England, via Panama. PORT DARWIN LOADlNG.—Thursday morning the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Darwin arrived at Bluff from Port Kembla. The vessel commenced loading there and later fills up at Lyttelton. Wanganui, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. She is due here on May 6 and is scheduled to clear this port finally on May 8 for New York, Boston. Halifax and London, via Panama. Heather. Roberton, Limited, will act as the local agents. OTIRA FURTHER DELAYED.—L. D. Nathan and Company, Limited, advise that the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Otira has been delayed in loading at Waikokopu, owing to wet weather. She is to sail to-day and is due at Auckland tomorrow evening. The vessel will berth at Central Wharf to continue loading and next Wednesday she is to be dispatched for Wellington to complete discharge. From Wellington she will sail for London, via Rio de Janeiro. SCHOONERS PIRI AND HUIA.—The Nobel auxiliary schooner Piri went to Tamaki yesterday afternoon to load explosives for New Plymouth. Greymouth, Westport and Dunedin. She is to sail at the beginning of next week. From Dunedin the vessel will return to Auckland. The auxiliary schooner Huia is under overhaul and will be recommissioned about the end of the month. She will load a full cargo of timber at Auckland for Brisbane.
KARAMEA LEAVES SUVA. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company has been notified by cable that the Karamea, en route from London, left Suva at S p.m. on Wednesday for Port Chalmers, Lyttelton and Nelson. The vessel is due at Port Chalmers on Sunday. PIPIRIKI REPORTED. —The steamer Pipiriki, which left Napier for Dunkirk, London and Hull on March 20, is reported to have reached Panama last Wednesday. The vessel is under charter to the G. H. Scales Company and she loaded a quantity of wool at Auckland. H.M.S. DUNEDIN RETURNS. —H.M.S. Dunedin returned from Wellington at 9 o'clock this morning. She berthed at Sheerlegs Wharf. On Wednesday she will go into dock, where she will remain for about a month, undergoing overhaul and refitting. RAISDALE FROM ANTWERP.—The steamer Raisdale is reported to have cleared Balboa last Thursday in continuation of her voyage from Antwerp. The vessel has a full cargo of basic slag for discharge at Auckland and New Plymouth. She is due at Auckland about May 12. The New Zealand Shipping Company are the local agents. AORANGI DUE 2 P.M. TO-MORROW. —According to a radio message received by the local office of the Union Company,, the R.M.M.S. Aorangi is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at Z o’clock to-morrow afternoon from Vancouver and way ports. About 3.30 p.m. the vessel berths at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and part cargo. At 10 o’clock on Monday evening she leaves Auckland for Sydney. ROTORUA DELAYED BY WEATHER. —A further radio message received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company states that the liner Rotorua is meeting with bad weather and is now expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland to-morrow afternoon from London and Southampton. After pratique has been granted the vessel will berth at the Queen’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and part cargo. From here the vessel proceeds to Wellington and New Plymouth to complete discharge.
NEW GERMAN LINER PLANNED. The Berlin correspondent of the “Financial Times’' reports that it is stated in shipbuilding circles at Hamburg that the Hambourg-Amerika Line is projecting the construction of four vessels for freight and passenger services, which are to attain a speed of 16& to 21 knots. It is also reported that the same company is considering the construction of a fast liner for passenger traffic only, which will have a greater speed than the new twin Norddeutscher Lloyd liners Europa and Bremen. The Hamburg-Amerika Line intends, it is stated, that this new liner shall be the first real trans-Atlantic racer, and that, notwithstanding its great speed, every provision shall be made for complete safety, comfort, and for the excessive luxury that is now being demanded by the users of such liners. TOFU A SAILS. —Besides mails and cargo the Union Company's Island passenger steamer Tofua, which left Auckland shortly after 11 o’clock this morning for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, took the following passengers:— Saloon: Misses G. The Hauturu arrives from Hokianga at 6 o'clock to-morrow morning. .She is scheduled to sail from Raglan, Kawhia and Waikato Heads at 4 p.m. on Monday. The Rarawa is to leave for New Plymouth at 3.30 p.m. on Monday.
