RAJAH BROOKE OF SARAWAK
RAJAH BROOKE OF SARAWAK, who is the only/ white rajah in the world, and is entitled to his salute of guns, HEARING of a case which will decide the nationality of the White Rajah of Sarawak, Sir Charles Vyner Brooke, and his family, was begun recently before the Special Commissioners or Income Tax. The Dayang Muda of Sarawak, Mrs. Bertram Brooke, a sister-in-law of the Rajah, has to show cause why she should not pay super-tax (of about £10,000) on the income from the fortune which was left her by her father. Sir Walter Palmer. It was claimed that the Dayang Muda was not a British subject. Her husband. Major Bertram Brooke, assists the Rajah in the governing of Sarawak and is known as the Tuan Muda. They have a house in England. Sir Patrick Hastings, K.C., for the Dayang Muda, contended that she lost her British nationality by marriage, and was therefore not liable to supertax. . ' .
The Rajah of Sarawak is the only white Rajah and rules a country of about 40,000 square miles.
