Liquor in "Dry” Area A fine of £SO was imposed on E. G. Ozanne in 4 the Taumarunui Police Court on Thursday on a charge of keeping liquor for sale in a prohibited area. Dunedin Property Deal A Princes Street property in Dunedin, with a frontage of 87ft. Sin., a depth of 132 ft., and containing one rood 13.3 poles, has been sold for £40,000. —P.A. • • • Wellington’s Revenue The Wellington City Council’s revenue for the past year was £640,766, and all was expended but £513. Rates produced £431,628, and rents £52,879. Interest and sinking funds swallowed £210,000. # * * Motorist Fined £25. Before a justice of the peace at the Stratford Police Court, Arthur McPhillips, of New Plymouth, was fined £25 on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. His car mounted the footpath and broke a shop window. —P.A. * ♦ * Chinese Fined £25 Another Chinese who overstayed his time in New Zealand was in the Police Court yesterday. He was Wong Shun, aged 21, a gardener. Wong was fined £25 for his offence, and Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., made an order for deportation. Big Milking-Shed Burned A large milking and implement shed, owned by Mr. Malcolm Colman, was destroyed by fire early yesterday at Mangataparu. Included in the property destroyed was a milking machine, a new separator, a hayrake and sweep, and a gig and harness. The shed was insured for £l5O and the milking plant for £IOO in the State Office. The fire originated near an electric motor. Dead In Outhouse Roy Arthu.r Simpson, aged 37, living in Bealey Avenue, Christchurch, was found dead in an outhouse at the back of a hotel in the city on Thursday. At the inquest a brother said Simpson had not been in good health since the war, but he appeared to be in his usual health on Wednesday evening. The inquest was adjourned. —P.A. “Mixed Up With Liquor" William James Smith, who “got mixed up with liquor.” has to pay a fine of £2 for stealing two blankets valued at 15s. The blankets were owned by James Anderson, Detective-Sergeant Kelly said in the Police Court yesterday. Smith, who is a labourer, 23 years old, had apparently been drinking and removed the blankets. Later, they were found in his swag. Stolen Car A five-seater Dodge motor-car, the property of the Anglo Motor Company, Eden Terrace, was stolen on Thursday from outside 23 Edmond Street, Mount Eden. The car was left outside the house at 10 p.m., but it had disappeared at 7 o’clock next morning. It is a 1922 model, painted black, and had a leather hood. The car bears the number 11-261. Banned Publications A notice in the Gazette announces that the importation of the following publications is prohibited: "Elements of Political Education” (authors. A. Berdnikov and A. Svetlof); "Party Training Manual” (published by Communist Party of Australia, Sydney): "New Communist Manifesto of the Third Internationale” (published by the Socialist Party of Victoria): and “What Is This Communist Party?" (pamphlet). Exhibitors’ Cruelty Leaving show cows unmilked was described as absolute cruelty by a member of the 'Whangarei A. and P. Society’s executive yesterday, when a letter from the Whangarei branch of the S.P.C.A. was under discussion. The society drew attention to this practice, and asked that steps be taken to prevent it. The executive was favourable to the request and passed it on to the Spring Show schedule committee. The White Island Products Company has promised to donate a solid silver cup for the Winter Show in j May. The dates of the spring show 'were fixed tentatively for the last week j in November.
