Workmen to Tear Up Miles of Railway
PALMERSTON DEVIATION MEN BEING TRANSFERRED Press Association PALMERSTON N., To-day. Work commenced on the railway deviation to-day of tearing up the eight miles of track laid and collecting the materials for storage. Several officers have received notice of transfer to Gisborne and Nelson districts. About 90 per cent, of the men have signified their willingness to transfer to other undertakings. Ten men are to proceed to Gisborne on Monday, and about 40 will have gone by next week. There are 150 general labourers employed on the deviation.
